Massage & Healing with Sharon

Sharon’s Magical Massage:  90 minutes:  Swedish massage with warm lavender (essential oil) scented oil and Jin Shin Do neck release and Reflexology and Reiki or other energy healing

Swedish Massage is relaxing and therapeutic. It combines oils or lotion with strokes such as effleurage, kneading, and cross fiber.  The benefits include relief from aches and pains, increased circulation, deep relaxation, stress relief and greater flexibility.

Deep Tissue Massage aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. It is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries.  Communication during the session is important to determine the appropriate level of pressure for each individual.  You determine how deep you want the massage to be.

Reflexology involves applying specific techniques to the feet, and can be done on hands as well.  It relieves tension in the feet themselves, but also aims to harmonize the entire body.  According to reflexology there are points on the feet that correspond to every organ and system of the body. Working these points can bring balance and healing to the corresponding areas in the body.

Sports Massage is designed for active people who engage in athletics.  Sports Massage enhances performance and may prolong a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pain and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and improve recovery rates.

Reiki is a form of energy healing that cleanses and balances the energy patterns in the body.  As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum mental, emotional, and physical health.  Reiki helps remove energetic blockages and restore your vital life force energy.  Reiki is done fully clothed with gentle hand positions on or over the body.  The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.

Medical Massage is specifically directed to resolve conditions diagnosed by a medical doctor. A variety of modalities or techniques may be used during the treatment, but the focus is on the specific areas of the body related to the diagnosis.  This enhances the body’s natural self-healing process and reduces the needed recovery time from injury.

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger points” in your body.  Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body.  These ‘knots’ are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress.  During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points.

Pregnancy Massage is designed specifically for pregnant women.  Pregnancy is a time in which a woman’s body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical, mental, and emotional changes.  Using various techniques, pregnancy massage helps alleviate discomforts experienced throughout pregnancy.  The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the reduction of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, improved breathing and relaxation, and relief from uncomfortable digestive issues.

Couple’s Massage allows two people to enjoy getting simultaneous massages in the same room, with two massage therapists.  Great for friends, parent with child, or “couples”.  Sessions must be at least one hour.  Massages for three people at the same time are also available with enough notice.

Shea Body Butter massage:  Replace massage oil with Emma’s Essential’s Shea Body Butter with any massage for an additional $8.  You keep whatever is left in the 2 ounce jar.

**Massage tables have heated pads.  Scented oils, (from pure essential oils) are available.**

You do not need to choose a type of massage or energy healing ahead of time, although you may.  You can discuss your interests and concerns with Sharon before starting the session and determine the best modalities for your situation.  You may choose to experience a combination of healing techniques.

About Suzanne

Suzanne Devereaux is a licensed massage therapist with over 25 years’ experience in the healing arts.  She is a Reiki Master, a Kripalu trained Yoga Instructor, an Interfaith Minister, and a student of herbal medicine.  She now focuses her bodywork practice on Shiatsu and CranioSacral Therapy and offers a unique combination of the two.

Shiatsu is based on the theory that there are channels of energy running throughout the body called meridians.  This energy is called Ki, the primary substance and force of life.  By applying stretches and compressions, using thumbs, hands, and elbows, the shiatsu practitioner facilitates the movement of Ki along these meridians to balance the flow of Ki in the body.  This flow creates the harmony in the body essential to optimal health.

CranioSacral Therapy is a very gentle and subtle therapeutic bodywork.  Using a very light touch, the practitioner is able to detect imbalances within the craniosacral system.  These restrictions are often the result of past injuries or traumas, stored in the body in the form of energy cysts.  This light touch is used to encourage change in these areas, resulting in a central nervous system free of restrictions.  This often leads to an experience of greater freedom of thought and movement.
